Our company was established in 1986 in Takaka as a partnership and traded by the name of Golden Bay Joinery. Joinery manufacturing was the company’s original focus and employed 2 staff to begin with. Joinery has remained a core part of the business and today we employ 20 joinery staff which is a unique point of difference for our stores and customers.
With the change in market conditions and the inadequate servicing of building supplies in Golden Bay, the decision was made to move into supplying and distributing not only locally manufactured joinery items, but also to become a major building supplies merchant to the Golden Bay. The company structure was altered and the name was then changed to Building ConneXion Ltd which gave a better reflection of what the company now stood for.
In 1993 Building ConneXion joined the ITM group (Independent Timber Merchants) at which time it gained not only increased buying status but also a nationally recognised brand in ITM.
Today the company has 3 ITM Stores located in Takaka, Motueka and Nelson. We operate our own modern Joinery and a separate Frame & Truss plant both at Lower Queen StreetRichmond. Our shared administration centre based in Motueka provides support for company administration, personnel and marketing function. In May 2019 the Greymouth Store was sold to Westimber Ltd and remains an ITM Store. In May 2022 the Havelock ITM store was sold to Building Supplies Development Ltd and remains and ITM Store.
Our total work work force of around 120 staff make Building ConneXion a major employer in the top of the south.
